Oh, let's see...

1.  Steve got jealous of all of Socks' Lightning Visits to the vet, so there was nothing for it but that he should have a Lightning Visit to the doctor today.  Where it was discovered that he has arrived home from Boskone with acute bronchitis.  Medications have been prescribed.  Rest has been prescribed.  Below, a picture of Steve resting, at Socks' insistence.

2. I have an appointment with the vampires tomorrow morning.  After which I suspect I will be stopping at the grocery store because...

3. Winter storm warning for Waterville and environs, starting Wednesday. Weatherbeans at the moment calling for another 8-12 inches.  Man, I'm going to have upper arms to die for.

4.  I am not yet half-way through the galleys of Liaden Universe® Constellation Volume One.

5.  I provide a link to an article interesting not so much for the description of a kerfuffle in an online forum, but for the discussion of "nice," and how the concept of same is used as a bullying tactic, a topic of some interest to me.  Since, as advertised elsewhere and often, I am so not nice...

Wow -- Socks is using his Big Snooze sleep rays on Steve. He's quite the enforcer!

Been meaning to mention that you have the coolest "book-lover" icon. Just brilliant.

Yes, Socks is very strict like Nurse Diesel from the Mel Brooks movie High Anxiety! Get well Steve.

As for the long blog post I couldn't believe my eyes the ladies told to shut up and be nice, the male jerk can say anything he wants. That is annoying beyond words. Funnily enough I was raised in a matriarchal household where the men and me had to shut up or they'd get it quick from my terrifying Mom. I had to shut up not because I was female but because me aulde Mum would kill be otherwise. As I am now kind of grown up I am known for speaking out. A lot of people don't like that but hey....the apple hasn't fallen far from the tree.

And thus we see graphic proof that Cat Therapy is a clinically proven effective method of soothing the Bronchitis sufferer.

Socks clearly takes his job as clinical cat therapist very seriously. Hope Steve feels better soon and that the vampires are reasonably kind to you.

Thanks for the link to the library blog. Nice to find another good read. As for "nice". Wow. She is right on. One freeing aspect of old age is that I find it less necessary- though one still may catch more flies with honey. When honey fails- what's to lose? :) Being "nice" is used to the same effect and purpose as bustles, high heels, and long dresses. Makes us better prey, hobbles us, makes us more afraid. It will be a long hard slog ladies. I hope the young ones are weaponed up for it. The rest of the world often doesn't even know they have a right to fight. :(

Just a reminder: there are shades of nice which are definitely hostile. I recall listening to well-brought up (hmmm) Southern women making comments which were decidedly catty, not to go so far as to call them bitchy, ending the comment with "bless her heart."
And why are female cats milder in their expressions than female dogs?

All the best health wishes to you both. I actually wore four layers of clothing to work for the first time ever today - just because I might have gotten a bit of a sniffle on Sunday, sitting in the unheated auditorium for the school musical (already in my jacket and with a cashmere shawl, etc. ). I already had eight weeks of cold this year (new record) and wasn't home for Christmas for the first time in my life.
So I really DO feel with you and wish you both the BEST of health.

Bigotry of every stripe is so pervasive. Yet another reason why I strenuously eschew Facebook and all its ilk.
Hope Steve gets much better much quickly -- and with such skilled nursing, how can he not? Kitty love is a panacea par excellence.

I had that about 7 years ago and found out I was allergic to penicillin on day 8 of my recovery. Get well Steve.
